In this session Seth Binder from the U.S. based non-governmental organization Security Assistance Monitor will provide an overview of how journalists can access detailed data and information on U.S. military and police aid and arms sales to the Middle East and North Africa to find new stories and enhance existing news stories covering U.S. security cooperation or security issues within their own countries. Through SAM’s interactive, comprehensive databases, journalists can see the types of aid and equipment the United States is providing and use that data to investigate whether security institutions in their countries are using the aid as intended and whether the aid is improving security in their countries.
